Buckle Up: Every Ride, Every Time

Safe Kids Worldwide and the General Motors Foundation released a new study during National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 15-21) that reports 1 in 4 parents surveyed admitted to not buckling up their children on every ride.  Groups that reported doing this more often were educated, affluent and young parents.  Parents know buckling up is important but had reasons for not doing it on occasion such as only driving a short distance, driving at night or being in a rush.  The full report, along with a video, an infographic and a safety checklist for parents are posted on the Safe Kids Worldwide website – http://www.safekids.org/blog-post/buckle-every-ride-every-time.

At Safe Kids Greater Sacramento we celebrated CPS Week with a media event at our car seat fitting station at Methodist Hospital.  We were joined by Ed Beaudette, a parent advocate from Nevada County.  He lost his daughter Nora in a crash in 2003 and shared why it is important to buckle up on every ride, every time.  You can read his story here http://www.safekids.org/story/buckle-nora and it was shared by Safe Kids Worldwide President and CEO Kate Carr in her Huffington Post blog here http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kate-carr/two-stories-two-car-crashes-two-different-results_b_3957804.html.  With Ed, and representatives from Safe Kids California, CA Office of Traffic Safety and CA Dept. of Public Health, we had a great turnout from the media and our safety story was featured on Fox 40, Univision 19 and KCRA 3 as well as several radio stations and newspapers.  We also had many of our own Safe Kids Greater Sacramento members there to help.

Thank you for all that you do to keep children safe on the road.  Families in need of a car seat checkup can call our car seat hotline at 916-864-5779 to schedule an appointment.
