The National Safe Routes to School Conference was held in Sacramento August 13-15, 2013. Following the conference advocates, including representatives from Safe Kids Greater Sacramento, visited the California legislature to urge lawmakers to support dedicated funding for Safe Routes to School. Walking and biking advocates came from many different disciplines and learned about the variety of benefits of improving the pathways for a child to travel from home to school. Through active transportation we teach children how to be safe on the road, prevent childhood obesity, decrease pollution, decrease traffic congestion, help children be ready to learn when they arrive at school and promote family bonding time. Let’s get out there and use our feet!
